Disc golf season is here with the inaugural EPT-X Lipica Open presented by Latitude 64! At EPT, we believe that disc golf is for everyone, from amateur enthusiasts to the pros. That’s why we created EPT-X, a series of events that bring together players of all levels to enjoy the sport they love and this year, we’re kicking off the season with a unique opportunity to enjoy world class disc golf at one of Slovenia’s most iconic cultural monuments: Lipica Stud Farm.
Located in the South West corner of Slovenia near the Italian border, Lipica Stud Farm is the cradle of the Lipizzaner horse, a breed that dates back to the 16th century. The Lipizzaner horse is known for its grace, strength, and elegance, and has been used for centuries in royal courts, as well as for dressage and other equestrian competitions. Today, Lipica Stud Farm is one of the world’s most famous horse breeding facilities, and visitors can take guided tours of the stables and see the horses in action.
This historic estate boasts 300 hectares of stunning pastures and forests, making it a truly unique location for a disc golf tournament. It’s no wonder that last year, the estate hosted the Slovenian championship and Slovenia Open, and this year it’s ready to take on the EPT-X. But Lipica Stud Farm isn’t just steeped in history and culture, it’s also a place of great natural beauty. The estate is located in a picturesque area of Slovenia, close to the Italian town of Trieste and the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It’s the perfect location for outdoor enthusiasts who want to combine their love of disc golf with stunning views and a rich cultural experience. Near Lipica, visitors can explore the Vilenica caves, which are the oldest show caves in Europe and have been open to the public since 1819. The caves are home to a rich array of stalactites, stalagmites, and other unique rock formations, and visitors can take guided tours to learn more about the geology and history of the caves.
The region around Lipica is also renowned for its fine wines, particularly those from the Karst wine region, which produces red wines from the Refosco grape and white wines from the Malvasia grape. Additionally, the region is famous for its delicious prosciutto, known as Pršut in Slovenian, which is a dry-cured ham made from local Karst pork. Sežana, the nearby town, is home to the only wine museum in Slovenia, where visitors can learn about the history of winemaking in the country and taste some of the local wines.
The EPT-X Lipica Open is organized by Air Bounce Disc Golf in cooperation with Lipica Stud Farm. This PDGA International B-tier competition falls under the EPT-X Category III, and it promises to be an unforgettable event for players of all levels. The tournament course for the EPT-X Lipica Open 2023, presented by Latitude64, is situated on the pastures of Lipica Stud Farm and is only playable during the tournament as the area is reserved for horses during the rest of the year. This makes it a unique opportunity to explore the grounds.
